Febuxostat-a New Approved Drug for Gout Treatment
Lately, Febuxostat was released and it is found out that it is helpful. It is considered a newly approved drug for treating gout, only being approved by the Federal Drug Administration in 2008. It works by inhibiting xanthine oxidase so that the uric acid levels in the blood are reduced. Xanthine oxidase is the enzyme that breaks down purine into uric acid. It is the uric acid that gets deposited into joints that causes the inflammatory reaction and pain in gout. As febuxostat inhibits the xanthine oxidase, then the purine is not problem into uric acid and the bloods uric acid levels are reduced. This then decreases the chances of uric acid being deposited into the joints and gout occurs.
